Joachim Wissler knows how to compose symphonies that will live on in your memory using top-quality ingredients. His love of the product, with its crisp aromas, together with his refined, yet straight-forward compositions, reduced to the essentials, make Joachim Wissler one of the finest chefs in Germany. His approach to cooking is provocative, modern and creative.

In 1963, Joachim Wissler was born and grew up on a farm in the Swabian Alb. The avid chef concluded his studies at “Traube Tonbach” (Baiersbronn). After several positions in Baden, he was awarded his first Michelin Star as head chef at Reinhartshausen Castle (Erbach / Rheingau) in 1995. In 2000, Wissler switched to the Restaurant Vendôme im Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg, where after his first year he received his first star, in 2002, his second star and, in 2004, his third star. In 2001 the monthly insiders’ magazine “Der Feinschmecker” selected the Vendôme as "Restaurant of the Year.” In 2003 the Gault Millau, and in 2004 “Der Feinschmecker” chose Joachim Wissler as Chef of the Year.

In 2010, he became the first German chef to receive the international chefs’ prize at the Spanish conference “Lo Mejor de la Gastronomía” in Alicante. In 2012 & 2015, in the Germany-wide vote of the gourmet portal “Restaurant Rangliste,” the 100 best German chefs elected Joachim Wissler as “the chef of chefs.” In 2017, for the second successive year, he held first place in “GERMANY’S 50 BEST CHEFS” and was likewise awarded two prizes in the “Best-of-the-Best Awards 2017,” as “National Hero” and “European Champion.” Joachim Wissler is among Germany’s elite chefs, and he currently has the highest German ranking in the world ranking list “World’s 50 Best Restaurants.” The Restaurant Vendôme of the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg, in addition to its three Michelin stars, has been decorated with 19.5 Gault Millau points and aslo 5 Feinschmecker “F”’s.

RESTAURANTE VENDÔME

Restaurant Vendôme, which was named for the square of the same name in Paris, is located in the Old Cavalier House of Bensberg Castle and was completely renovated in August 2007. Fine Zebrano wood, travertine marbles, carved crown mouldings and stained glass set the modern tone of discreet elegance. The guests set off on a voyage of culinary discovery, in their choice of 5, 8 or 10 courses. At midday, a gourmet lunch including champagne is also served at the Vendôme.
